BELLINGHAM, WASH. – University of Alaska Anchorage freshman Joshua Caleb ran 46.73 to set a new school and GNAC record in the 400 at the Ralph Vernacchia Invite Saturday. His time currently ranks seventh nationally in Div. II.
Ethan Hewitt set the previous school and GNAC record of 47.51 in 2011. Caleb won the 200 in a time of 21.60.
Liv Heite collected the other win for the Seawolves running to a first-place finish in the 100 hurdles in 14.65. She placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.17.
UAA posted four top-10 finishes in the 5,000. Michael Zapherson finished second (14:27.70), and George Payne was ninth (15:03.24) in the men's race. Alexandra Otto finished fourth (17:24.60), and Jordan Strausbaugh was 10th (17:46.15).
Blanca De Arvizu Sarrias finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.10), with Lacie Simmons sixth (15.63). Simmons finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:07.99).
Felix Robertson was third in the 110 hurdles (16.76), Eric Bushnell was third in the discus (135-1), and Mikayla Mader was third in the 100 (12.57).
Riday Jana finished fourth in the 200 (22.64) and 10th in the 100 (11.19).
Zachary Kohler ran 3:55.51 to finish sixth in the 1,500, and Tim Hunter was 10th in the 400 in 52.42.
Morgan Grant and Anders Larsen finished seventh (20-1) and ninth (19-7.5) in the long jump.
The UAA men finished fourth and the women were sixth among 25 teams.
A trio of Seawolves will compete in the GNAC Multi-Event Championships April 29-30 in Bellingham.
