ANCHORAGE (July 23) – The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team will hit the Alaska Airlines Center hardwood for 15 contests in 2024-25, including a pair of games against NCAA Div. I competition in the
ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout.
The Seawolves will play host to the state's premier basketball tournament Nov. 22-23 when they welcome D-I programs North Dakota State, Troy and Vermont – all of which won 22 games and reached the postseason last spring. UAA will challenge Troy in the first round.
"We are very pleased with our field this season," said UAA head coach
Ryan McCarthy. "As women's basketball continues to grow, so does our tournament, and that is evident with the caliber of teams we were able to attract. I think local fans will get to see some very good basketball from programs who competed in the postseason, and could very well be teams we all watch this March. Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of our title sponsors
ASRC and
ConocoPhillips Alaska."
UAA opens the season Nov. 1-2 with home games against NAIA foe Simpson, and closes November with a pair of contests against fellow D-II squad South Dakota Mines.
The nine-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference home slate kicks off with early December dates against Saint Martin's (Dec. 5) and Western Oregon (Dec. 7), before resuming in the new year.
Other key home dates include Jan. 18 against Western Washington, Feb. 8 against Alaska Fairbanks and Feb. 20 against Montana State Billings. Senior Night is set for Feb. 22 against traditional rival Seattle Pacific.
The postseason starts with the GNAC Tournament, Mar. 6-8 in Lacey, Wash., with the NCAA West Regional Championships to be played Mar. 14-17 at a to-be-determined site.
