INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 24) – The Alaska Anchorage volleyball team is playoff bound after earning a share of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title, drawing the No. 4 seed for the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships as the NCAA unveiled the 64 teams in eight regions who will compete for the 2025 national title.
Ranked No. 24 nationally, UAA (23-5) will face No. 5 seed and nationally 16th-ranked Alaska Fairbanks (23-5) in the first round on Thursday, Dec. 4 (6 pm AST) in San Diego, Calif. UAA and UAF met twice during the regular season, with the Nanooks prevailing each time in four sets.
The UAF/UAA winner will play the winner between 8th-seeded Cal State San Bernardino (22-5) and top-seeded and host Point Loma (24-4) in the regional semifinals, while the other side of the bracket features 7th-seeded Central Washington (18-7) against 2nd-seeded Simon Fraser (20-4) and 6th-seeded Western Washington (19-6) against 3rd-seeded Fresno Pacific (25-1).
Semifinals are set for Friday, Dec. 5 and the West Region title match for Saturday, Dec. 6. Start times will be announced later.
Winners of the West and the NCAA's seven other Div. II regions will advance to the Elite Eight, Dec. 11-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
UAA has now qualified for the NCAAs 12 times since 2009, winning the West Region and advancing to the national title match in 2016. It is the Seawolves' 14th overall NCAA bid.
