CORVALLIS, Ore. (Feb. 10) – Seniors
Montana Fairbairn and
Grace Costello bolstered a strong start on floor exercise and vault Monday to pace the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team to a 190.775 total in a tri-meet at Gill Coliseum.
The Seawolves also got a season-high 9.8 from junior
Ariana DeSouza as they tied the 15th-best floor exercise total in program history at 48.650. UAA finished third in the meet behind No. 10 Oregon State (197.325) and Washington (195.700).
DeSouza's floor routine was complemented by a 9.725 from Fairbairn and 9.7s from Costello (season high), freshman
Jordan Grindol (career high) and freshman
Hannah Boyd. It was the second-best floor mark of the season for Boyd, who tallied 37.500 as UAA's lone all-arounder.
Fairbairn earned a 9.7 to lead a consistent vault lineup, followed by 9.625s from Costello and freshman
Verena Wong. UAA topped the 48-point barrier (48.050) for the fourth time in six meets with a 9.575 from freshman
Maribelle Albert and a 9.525 from Boyd.
A trio of sophomores highlighted the night on uneven bars as
Jada Niles (9.7),
Avery Tillmans (9.675) and
Claudia Lessig (9.625) each set or tied their season-high marks, including a career-best for Tillmanns.
Costello led the way on beam with a 9.65, alongside a 9.625 from Fairbairn and a 9.475 from Boyd.
