Verena Wong recorded a pair of career highs and fellow freshman
Hannah Boyd earned a 38.050 all-around Friday to pace the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team to a 191.825 total at Gill Coliseum.
The Seawolves finished third in the tri-meet behind No. 10 Oregon State (197.175) and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival UC Davis (194.350), improving on their season average by nearly half a point.
"It was great to hit 28 of 28 routines," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch, whose team suffered no falls and scored 9.30 or better on all but one routine, including exhibitions. "We opened the door for some deductions with just some small mistakes here and there that we're looking to clean up on Monday."
UAA got off to a strong start thanks to its veterans, getting a 9.8 from senior
Montana Fairbairn and a season-best 9.775 from junior
Ariana DeSouza to sit second place at 48.275.
The Seawolves topped the 48-point barrier vault for the third time in five meets, led by a career-high 9.7 from Wong and 9.65s from Fairbairn and senior
Grace Costello. Boyd added a 9.575 as the Minnesotan surpassed the 38-point all-around plateau for the second time.
Claudia Lessig led a consistent effort on uneven bars with a 9.575, along with a 9.5 from fellow sophomore
Avery Tillmanns.
Jada Niles and Boyd scored 9.475s as UAA totaled 47.450 on the apparatus.
Wong – from Aiea, Hawaii – delivered a 9.75 to lead UAA in her first-ever counting balance beam routine, while Costello earned a 9.7. Fairbairn scored 9.65, and another Hawaiian – junior
Breeann Spain – scored 9.6 to pace a 48.025 total.
