ANCHORAGE (Mar. 22) – Seniors
Montana Fairbairn and
Grace Costello posted solid three-event efforts Saturday to pace the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team to a strong vault performance and a 191.875 team total in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex.
The Seawolves finished fourth in the competition behind No. 23 Southern Utah (196.625), UC Davis (196.400) and Sacramento State (193.850). Southern Utah defended its title and tied its own meet record score from last year, getting a 39.425 all-around from Niya Randolph and a 39.275 all-around from Brinlee Christensen. UC Davis star Amelia Moneymaker was the all-around (39.500), beam (9.9) and bars (9.9) champion, helping the Aggies to a season-high team score and a possible NCAA Regionals berth.
UAA's vault total of 48.500 matched the ninth-best figure in program history, led by a 9.75 from Fairbairn and a career-high 9.75 from freshman
Hannah Boyd. Freshman
Verena Wong tied her personal best with 9.7, along with 9.65s from Costello and freshman
Maribelle Albert.
"I'm so proud of the way our vault lineup has performed all season, and today was the culmination of their hard work in the gym paying off," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch.
The Seawolves also performed well on floor, with Fairbairn tying for seventh at 9.825 and junior
Ariana DeSouza delivering her second-best effort of the season at 9.8. Costello and Boyd added 9.7s as UAA's 48.525 total just missed making the program's top-25 list.
A one-year transfer from William & Mary, Costello led UAA on beam with a 9.75, while Fairbairn and Wong posted 9.675 and 9.65, respectively.
Sophomore
Jada Niles highlighted UAA's day on uneven bars with a career-high 9.8, tying for fifth among the 24 competitors.
The Seawolves have one competition remaining on their 2025 schedule, April 11-13 at the WCGA National Invitational Championships in Shreveport, La.
