Four Alaska Anchorage men's basketball players were recognized for their elite performance in the classroom this week as
Tyler Burraston,
Zach Ibbetson,
Jesse Stines and
Bishop Tosi qualified for the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
A junior post from Anchorage, Tosi led UAA with a 3.87 overall grade-point average in political science. On the court, the former Bartlett High star and Bellevue (Wash.) College transfer led UAA with 5.9 rebounds per game and 56 percent shooting, along with 12.0 points and 2.6 assists per game.
Burraston (management) and Stines (construction management) both made the grade with 3.80 overall GPAs in their first seasons as JC transfers. A guard from Draper, Utah, and Green River (Wash.) College, Burraston led the Seawolves with 13.8 points per game and 40.5 percent three-point shooting, finishing among the national leaders with 3.4 treys per game. A forward from La Mirada, Calif., Stines started 13 of 30 contests, producing 4.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.
A sophomore from Norco, Calif., Ibbetson carries a 3.60 GPA in marketing. The guard played in all 31 games in his first year after transferring from Santiago Canyon College, posting 5.6 points per game.
To qualify for the CSC All-District Team, student-athletes must be of at least sophomore eligibility, carry a 3.50 or higher overall GPA at their institution, and have played in 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's games.
