PORTLAND, Ore. (Jan. 26) – Alaska Anchorage senior
Taylor Searcey was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball Monday after posting a historic effort in a pair of razor-thin losses.
The Valdosta State transfer averaged 23.5 points (15-27 FG, 16-18 FT), 9.0 rebounds, 10.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game with just one turnover in 80 total minutes against Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings. On Thursday, she scored a collegiate career-high 25 points (10-19 FG, 5-6 FT), along with eight rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in a 101-98 loss to SPU. On Saturday, the Lincoln, Neb., native logged just the eighth triple-double in 25 years of GNAC history and the first for a Seawolf since February 2006, tallying 22 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 3FG, 11-12 FT), 10 rebounds, 10 assists, no turnovers, two blocks and three steals in a 92-91 double-overtime setback to MSUB.
"Taylor competed relentlessly all week," said UAA head coach
Matt Thune. "She was aggressive on both ends of the floor, played with tremendous poise and elevated everyone around her. She is fully bought into our standards, and I couldn't be prouder of how she showed up."
Searcey and the Seawolves are back on the road this week for games at No. 11 Central Washington (Thur., 6 pm AST) and Northwest Nazarene (Sat., 11:30 am AST). Find live links at GoSeawolves.com.
