VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Anders Larsen of the University of Alaska Anchorage sits in ninth-place at the end of the first day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
The Chugiak, Alaska, native has a one day total of 2,892 points. He opened the day running 7.15 in the 60 (830 points) and long jumped 6.57/21-6.75 (713 points). He finished with a personal-best of 12.32/40-5 in the shot put and a personal-best of 1.91/6-3.25 in the high jump. His shot put and long jump marks rank fifth all-time at UAA.
Liv Heite clipped the final hurdle in the prelims of the 60 hurdles to finish 18th in 9.03.
"These national meets are tough," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "Ander's is hanging tough and battling in the heptathlon hitting two PR 's in the last two events to keep with the pack. He will be ready to get out there and mix it up in day two. Liv had what looked liked the best race of her career going and just had a tough break there in an unforgiving event at the end. Really proud of what she accomplished this season. I know she isn't done and can't wait to see where she reaches to in outdoor."
The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday.
