INDIANAPOLIS (Mar. 4) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team remains in position for an NCAA Tournament berth as it heads into this week's Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, staying at No. 5 in the NCAA Div. II West Regional rankings released Wednesday.
With a 20-9 overall record and a 15-9 mark against D-II foes, the Seawolves are one of three GNAC teams among the top 10 in the West, along with No. 2 Saint Martin's (19-5 vs D-II) and No. 6 Northwest Nazarene (16-9 vs D-II).
California Collegiate Athletic Association leader Cal State East Bay paces the rankings with a 28-0 overall mark, while Pacific West Conference leader Point Loma (22-5) is third and Cal State Dominguez Hills (21-7) is fourth.
The GNAC, Pac West and CCAA tournament champions receive automatic berths to the NCAA West Regional Championships, along with the next five highest ranked teams. The announcement of the national playoff field will be made Sunday evening (time TBA) at ncaa.com.
The Seawolves take the No. 2 seed into the GNAC tournament in Bellingham, Wash., advancing via bye to Friday's 4:15 pm AST semifinal against either No. 6 seed Alaska Fairbanks or No. 3 seed Northwest Nazarene.
