BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Jan. 18) - Peter Bullock scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help the UAA men's basketball team to an 88-83 upset of Western Washington here Saturday, snapping the Vikings' 19-game home winning streak.
Senior forward Shane Bannarbie had his first career double-double for UAA (7-8, 4-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference), while WWU (9-5, 3-2) was led by center Mike Palm's 27-point, 17-rebound effort.
The Seawolves used a 41-8 advantage in bench scoring to end the third-longest home win streak in NCAA Division II and thwart the Vikings' shot at the school record for consecutive home wins.
UAA trailed by as much as nine points in the first half, but trimmed the deficit to just 43-42 at the intermission. The Vikings took a 51-46 lead with 15 minutes left, but Bullock and Cody Gallatin sparked a 16-4 UAA run with consecutive three-pointers.
The Seawolves increased their lead to 79-69 on another Gallatin three with 3:50 to go. UAA wouldn't hit another field goal the rest of the night, but converted 9 of 11 free throws to seal the win.
Gallatin finished with 13 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting, while Bannarbie came off the bench with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Guard Scott Stevens was the fourth Seawolf in double figures with 11 points (2-2 3FG, 5-6 FT).
UAA made up for losing the rebounding battle 48-34 by hitting 11 of 21 three-pointers. Meanwhile, WWU hit just 6 of 18 threes and had 19 turnovers.
Bullock's double-double was his eighth this season and the 26th of the junior's career. He also had three steals.
The Seawolves face another key road test next Saturday, Jan. 25 at arch-rival Alaska Fairbanks (4 p.m.). UAA and UAF are currently tied for third-place in the GNAC, just half a game out of first.
