ANCHORAGE (Nov. 1) - Newcomers Kemmy Burgess and Aaron Lawrence made a good first impression on the Wells Fargo Sports Complex crowd Saturday night, leading their Gold squad to a 94-87 victory in the UAA men's basketball team's annual Green & Gold intrasquad scrimmage.
Burgess, a shooting guard from El Cajon, Calif., scored a game-high 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5 of 10 on threes, while Lawrence, a point guard from Sacramento, Calif., had 14 points, seven assists and zero turnovers.
On the Green side, guard Scott Stevens scored 21 points, hitting 5 of 6 threes, and guard Nathon Glover came off the bench to score a team-high 21 on 6-of-7 three-point shooting.
Both squads lit it up from long range, with the Green nailing 16 of 21 threes and the Gold hitting 13 of 28.
Green won the rebounding battle 35-26, but was hurt by 16 turnovers, while the winning Gold team committed only six.
Senior forward Josh Evans also had in impressive outing, making 8 of 9 shots for 17 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
Senior forward Peter Bullock did not play in the scrimmage to rest his injured foot. UAA's leading returning scorer is expected to play, however, when the team travels to the University of the Pacific for its Nov. 14 exhibition game.
The Seawolves make their regular-season debut Nov. 20 against Hawaii Pacific in the AT&T Alascom Jamboree. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
