ANCHORAGE (Dec. 4) - Kemmy Burgess registered his first double-double, but Seattle Pacific's rebounding advantage was too much for the Seawolves to overcome in an 89-83 overtime loss to the Falcons on Thursday.
UAA (5-1, 0-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) got 24 points and 10 rebounds from Burgess, and Mark Drake scored 22. SPU (3-2, 1-0) was led by guard Jordan Lee's 29 points and a 13-point, 11-rebound effort from center Jason Chivers.
The Falcons, who owned a 43-27 edge on the boards, overcame a 43-37 halftime deficit. Both teams shot well from long range, with SPU going 11 of 21 and UAA 13 of 23 from beyond the arc.
The Seawolves had a chance to win in regulation, but Burgess got too far under the basket and missed a baseline jumper with less than five seconds to go. SPU iced things in overtime by hitting 4 of 6 shots, including both three-point tries, and going 7 of 8 from the free throw line.
Drake nailed six threes for the Seawolves, but only one in the second half, when he was held to five points.
Seawolf forward Peter Bullock had his worst game of the season with 14 points (4-11 FG) and four rebounds in 21 minutes before fouling out early in overtime.
UAA will try to get back on track Saturday when its hosts Western Washington at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex at 8 p.m.
