SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 3) - The Seawolf women's basketball team started hot but faded down the stretch in a 68-59 loss to host Westminster College at Payne Gymnasium tonight.
Kamie Jo Massey led UAA (5-6) with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists, but the Seawolves got zero points from their bench in losing their fourth straight game. Westminster (5-10) was led by center Rebekah Steenblik's game-high 27 points.
UAA's two Utah natives - Massey and Mindy Mendenhall - combined for 31 points on 11-for-19 shooting, helping UAA to a respectable .451 field goal percentage. But the hosts made 25 of 51, including 8 for 16 from three-point range, as they fought back from a 37-30 halftime deficit.
Tanya Nizich scored 14 points and Amber Nasby added 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
The Seawolves are again on the road to start Great Northwest Athletic Conference play when they face Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho on Jan. 8.
