LACEY, Wash. (Jan. 29) - Peter Bullock delivered a dominating performance in the paint and Kemmy Burgess sank six three-pointers to lift the UAA men's basketball team to its third straight win, 80-69 over Saint Martin's here Thursday night.
UAA (15-4, 5-3 GNAC) led from wire-to-wire as Bullock scored 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting and grabbed a team season-high 16 rebounds. Burgess was the only other Seawolf in double figures with 20 points, while Saint Martin's (7-10, 3-5) got 26 points from guard Brandon Hartley.
It was the first Great Northwest Athletic Conference road win for the Seawolves, who shot 49 percent from the field and dominated the glass for a 47-30 rebounding edge.
UAA scored the game's first seven points and led by as many as 17 early in the second half before the Saints came back on the shooting of Hartley, the fourth-leading scorer in Division II. Saint Martin's got within 74-68 on a Hartley three-pointer with 2:18 remaining, but Aaron Lawrence (8 points, 6 assists) nailed a 16-foot jumper on UAA's next possession, and the Saints would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Bullock was 8 of 11 from the free throw line and blocked two shots, while Burgess was good on 6 of 12 three-pointers. Blaine Durrant had seven rebounds and three assists, subbing in the starting lineup for the injured Bob Austin (ankle sprain) for the third straight game. Adam Fitt-Chappell struggled to 0-of-5 shooting from the field, but the sophomore came up big on the defensive end with a career-high four steals.
While Hartley got his points, UAA played good defense against the Saints' other big weapon, forward Niko Nunogawa. Nunogawa came into the game averaging 20 points but managed just nine on 2-of-5 shooting, while committing five turnovers.
The Seawolves complete their weekend trip with a visit to Central Washington on Saturday (6 p.m. AST) in Ellensburg. The Wildcats (4-13, 1-7) posted their first league win Thursday, 87-80 over Alaska Fairbanks.
