MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - An unbeaten 3-0-1 record to begin the season has catapulted the Alaska Anchorage hockey team to No. 20 this week in the latest USCHO.com/CSTV Division I Men's College Hockey Poll.
The Seawolves - one of three teams to go unbeaten in their first four games (Miami, 4-0-0 and Minnesota Duluth, 3-0-1) - extended their unbeaten streak in non-conference games to 10 (7-0-3) last weekend after sweeping rival Alaska Fairbanks 4-3 and 5-3 in the opening two games of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup series.
The national ranking is the first for UAA since appearning at No. 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Division I poll Nov. 14, 2006. The appearance in the USCHO.com.CSTV poll is the first for the Seawolves since a No. 15 rating Nov. 8, 2004.
UAA received 16 votes in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, but did not appear in its Top-15 rankings.
One of eight Western Collegiate Hockey Association teams in this week's poll, UAA begins its conference slate this weekend with a two-game home series against Minnesota State.
The Mavericks were also the Seawolves' opponent following both of their last appearances in the national rankings.
