UAA sinks 'Swords as Osborne wins 100th

ANCHORAGE - Brandon Walker scored 20 points and Drew Robinson dished seven assists Sunday as the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team claimed a 75-53 victory over Chaminade in the final game of the AT&T Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (7-2) also got 14 points from sophomore center Malcolm Campbell and a career-high 10 points from true freshman center Liam Gibcus as gave sixth-year head coach Rusty Osborne his 100th career victory.

Chaminade (3-6) was led by 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and six assists from point guard Steven Bennett, but the rest of the Silverswords connected for just 34 percent (12 of 35) from the field.

The Seawolves did much of their damage from long range, connecting on 11 of 25 three-pointers. Walker nailed 4 of 7 treys, while fellow junior guards Kevin White (3 of 5) and Donnie Lao (2 of 4) got into the act as well.

After a brief 5-5 tie, Walker nailed a pair of free throws at the 15:32 mark to begin a 13-0 run and give UAA a lead it would never relinquish. The Seawolves led 40-19 at halftime and took their biggest advantage at 51-24 with 16:34 remaining.

Walker, who was also a perfect 6 of 6 from the free-throw line Sunday, was named the Jamboree's Most Outstanding Player and was joined by White and junior forward Nick Pacitti on the All-Jamboree Team.

Pacitti had seven points, three assists and a team-high eight rebounds in Sunday's victory, following a 14-point, 15-rebound showing in Saturday's win over Western New Mexico.

Robinson, meanwhile, had only one turnover and matched his personal-best and UAA season-high with his seven assists.

UAA is now 4-0 against fellow NCAA Division II competition this season, winning by an average of 24.3 points against Hawaii Pacific, Grand Canyon, Western New Mexico and Chaminade.

The Seawolves improved to 31-7 all-time in the Jamboree, which was celebrating its 17th edition in 2009. Against Chaminade, UAA is now 18-11 all-time, winning for the fourth time in five meetings this decade.

UAA is off for nine days before returning from the holiday break to face NAIA Trinity International (Ill.) on Dec. 30 and 31 at the WFSC. Those games will conclude the Seawolves' non-conference schedule for 2009-10.
