MIDWAY, Utah – Junior Steffi Hiemer led the Seawolves in the classical race as the Alaska Anchorage ski team wrapped up the final day of the Utah Invitational in fifth place on Saturday at Soldier Hollow.

UAA combined for 658.5 points over the course of eight events – half a point more than at the Montana State Invite on Jan. 15-16. Colorado claimed its second straight team title with 923 points, besting host Utah (898) and New Mexico (824.5), which finished second and third, respectively. Denver collected 710 points, good for fifth, while Montana State (6th, 640) and Westminster College (7th, 254) rounded out the bottom of the field.

For the second consecutive day, Hiemer led the Seawolves with her fifth-place showing in the 15K classic. Hiemer, from Kruen, Germany, recorded a time of 57 minutes, 25.9 seconds for her third top-10 result this season.

Also scoring for UAA was junior Laura Rombach (11th, 58:49.3) and freshman Marit Ulsund (13th, 59:14.0). Finishing in the top 15 was senior Kelsey Coolidge (59:38.7) at 14th, while freshman Karina Smith was 27th at 1:05:30.9.

On the men's side, Lukas Ebner paced the Seawolves with a season-high 15th place finish. The German crossed the finish line of the 20K in a time of 1:08:23.4. Freshman Lasse Molgaard-Nielsen (1:09:26.3) and Martin Kapso (1:17:23.3) each picked up points for UAA, finishing 19th and 28th, in that order.

The UAA Nordic team will meet up with the Alpine team on Feb. 4-5 for the New Mexico Invite at Red River, MN.
