PARK CITY, Utah – All-American Andreas Adde finished fifth in the giant slalom, helping the Alaska Anchorage Alpine team to a fifth-place showing on Day 1 in their season opener at the Utah Invitational on Saturday.
The Seawolves combined for 159.5 points after one event, with the men's team posting 88.5 points, and the women's team registering 71 . The Denver Pioneers lead with 232, followed by host Utah (216) and Colorado (213). New Mexico sits at No. 4 with 209.5 points, while Montana State (135) and Westminster College (100) each trail UAA at sixth and seventh, respectively.
Adde, the 2010 NCAA Champion in the slalom, recorded a two-run time of one minute, 57.05 seconds. Fellow Norwegian Halfdan Falkum-Hansen tied for 13th with a time of 1:58.41, while rookie Christopher Kollenborg (2:00.55) and senior Ryan Wolosyn (2:02.58) finished 20th and 21st, respectively.
Sophomore Kayla Hoog-Fry led the UAA women's squad in 12th place, completing both runs in a combined two minutes, 3.02 seconds. Classmate Ida Bjerka was 24th at 2:11.41, while junior Sandra MacDonald (2:58.85) was 28th.
All-American's Alex Parker and Egil Ismar were both unable to finish the second run due to injuries.
The Seawolves will compete in the slalom on Sunday with the first run scheduled for 7:30 a.m. AST. The Nordic portion of the Utah Invite will not commence until Jan. 21-22 in Soldier Hollow, Utah.
