UAA qualifies 11 for NCAA Championships

MIDWAY / PARK CITY, Utah – Highlighted by Lukas Ebner' s victory in the men's 20K classical, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves wrapped up the 2011 NCAA West Regional and Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships on Saturday, qualifying 11 athletes for the NCAA Championships in March.

The Seawolves finished the RMISA Championships in fifth place with 747 points, just two shy of fourth-place Denver (749). Colorado came away with the team title with 865.5 points, while host Utah (790) was second and New Mexico (777.5) was third. Montana State posted 615 for sixth, while Westminster College (383), which only fields an Alpine squad, was seventh.

The women's giant slalom was not contested today due to weather. As a result, the women's slalom scores from Feb. 25 were doubled for the team scoring.

The UAA men's Nordic team produced a stellar outing on the cross country trails at Soldier Hollow, posting all four individuals in the top 10 and recording a season-high 135 points.

Ebner, a rookie from Furtwangen, Germany, claimed his first collegiate win with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes and 11.4 seconds, besting fellow UAA freshman Lasse Molgaard-Nielsen (Copenhagen, Denmark). Molgaard-Nielsen posted a time of 1:06:06.1 for his first collegiate podium finish.
