Hoog-Fry, Seawolves finish third

RED RIVER, N.M – Led by Kayla Hoog-Fry's third-place showing, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves posted 11 skiers in the top 15 for a third-place standing after Day 1 of the New Mexico Invitational / 16th annual Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Ski Meet on Friday.

The UAA men's and women's team combined for 374 points after the completion of four events. The Seawolves trail host New Mexico (449) and Utah (393), which sit at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Montana State follows UAA by 12 points in fourth, while Denver (342) is fifth.

The UAA women's Alpine team paced the Seawolves with 112 points in the slalom race – good for second in the event. Finishing in a two-run time of one minute, 39.11 seconds was Hoog-Fry with her first-collegiate podium finish. Breaking into the top 10 with an eighth-place finish was junior All-American Alex Parker (1:42.51) and sophomore Ida Bjerka (1:42.52) in ninth.

The men's Alpine also had a solid showing on the slopes, recording 95 points. The 2010 NCAA Slalom Champion, Andreas Adde, posted UAA's best finish in eighth with a combined time of 1:36.50. Also finishing in the top 15 was sophomore Cameron Brewington (11th, 1:36.57), freshman Christopher Kollenborg (13th, 1:37.01) and junior Halfdan Falkum-Hansen (15th, 1:37.71).

On the cross country course, the UAA women's team placed all three scorers in the top 15 for 94 points. The junior trio of Steffi Heimer (18:09.3), Jaime Bronga (18:31.7) and Laura Rombach (18:33.6) picked up points for the Seawolves, finishing, sixth, 11th, and 12th, respectively, in the 5K classic.

On the men's side, the Seawovles received a top-15 finish in the 10K classic from freshman Lukas Ebner (12th, 30:17.1).
The Seawolves will look to maintain their top-three team finish when they compete in the slalom for the second straight day and the freestyle races tomorrow.
