ANCHORAGE – Spencer Svejcar paced five Alaska Anchorage players in double figures Saturday with 18 points, leading the 12th-ranked Seawolves to a 108-51 men's basketball victory over Portland Bible at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (2-0) also got 14 points and six assists from senior guard Suki Wiggs, plus 11 points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Corey Hammell as they tied the 12th-largest victory margin in program history.
The Wildcats (0-3) were led by 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from guard Troy Flanagan.
Less than 24 hours after earning a 99-36 win over the same team, UAA came out strong with a 10-2 run to begin the rematch. Svejcar scored 10 points in the opening 20 minutes as the hosts built a 49-20 halftime lead. The 6-4 senior from Arvada, Colo., finished with 6-of-12 shooting (4-7 3FG) and grabbed a pair of the Seawolves' 13 steals.
Senior point guard Diante Mitchell tallied 13 points (3-6 3FG), four assists and no turnovers, while junior forward Augustus Simmers chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Wiggs shot 4 of 9 from the field and grabbed two steals, although the GNAC Preseason Player of the Year came shy of the 20-point plateau for just the third time in 34 games as a Seawolf.
All 13 active Seawolves scored at least two points, and UAA outrebounded its National Christian College Athletic Association opponent 56-20. UAA shot 50.7 percent overall and made 15 of 34 three-pointers (.441).
The Seawolves make their first road trip next week when they play key West Region games against Chaminade (Nov. 11, 6:30 p.m. AST) and Hawaii Pacific (Nov. 12, 8:30 p.m. AST) in Honolulu.
