ANCHORAGE –
Isabelle Fox earned a 38.425 all-around and fellow junior
Hope Nelson posted a victory on uneven bars Friday to help the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team start the season with a 191.125 total and a tri-meet victory over Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves led from start to finish, earning 47.450 points on vault and 47.900 on bars, and clinching it with a 48.425 score on floor.
Southeast Missouri finished with 189.500 points and UW-Eau Claire with 177.600.
An All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation performer her first two seasons, Fox began her third campaign with a runner-up 9.85 on balance beam and a winning 9.825 on floor exercise.
"All things considered, this was a great start for us tonight," said UAA head coach
Tanya Ho, who begins her third season at the helm. "When we had a couple falls early in rotations, our other gymnasts stepped up and posted solid scores to keep us ahead. We will keep building on this and hopefully have a little more success on Sunday."
Fox placed third on vault as well, one spot ahead of freshman teammate
Kenadi Brown, who debuted with a 9.575 vault, a runner-up 9.7 routine on bars and a runner-up 9.775 on floor exercise.
Nelson barely missed tying her career high with her winning 9.8 on bars, where UAA took the top three places, and sophomore
Rachel Decious earned a third-place 9.775 on floor.
The Seawolves return to the Alaska Airlines Center on Sunday at 2 p.m. for a dual meet against Southeast Missouri State. Fans can receive a $5 ticket with the donation of at least one canned food item for Food Bank of Alaska.
