ANCHORAGE – Freshman
Kenadi Brown scored 38.725 in her first career all-around but it wasn't quite enough for the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team Sunday in a 191.225 to 190.825 dual-meet loss to Southeast Missouri State at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (2-1) also got a 9.9 on balance beam and a career-high-tying 9.825 on bars from senior
Sophia Hyderally in their second meet this season.
The Redhawks (2-2) were led by a winning 39.175 all-around from Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso, who tied Hyderally atop the beam podium with a 9.9, along with a winning 9.8 on vault, and team-highs of 9.75 on bars and 9.725 on floor.
"We got off to a decent start on vault and performed very well on bars, but it was our (four) falls on beam that really came back to cost us a chance at a win today," said UAA head coach
Tanya Ho, whose team beat Southeast Missouri and Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a 191.125 total in Friday's season-opening tri-meet. "Hopefully we can regain some consistency on beam this week in practice and flip the script in next week's meet against San Jose."
Hyderally – who owns the school and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record with a 9.925 on beam – delivered her sixth career 9.9-or-better score on that apparatus, while adding top honors on bars as well.
Meanwhile, Brown was runner-up in the all-around earned her first career victory with a 9.825 on floor exercise. The Las Vegas native also placed runner-up on uneven bars with a 9.775, along with scores of 9.625 on beam and 9.5 on vault.
Junior
Isabelle Fox placed runner-up with a 9.75 and junior Louisa-Marie Knapp tallied a career-best 9.55 to pace the Seawolves on vault.
