Kenadi Brown earned a 38.650 all-around score and the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team recorded a historic rotation on uneven bars Saturday to highlight a 194.375-192.525 dual-meet loss to San Jose State at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (2-2) also got a 38.350 all-around from junior
Isabelle Fox as they produced the third-best uneven bars total in program history with 48.900 points.
The Spartans (3-2) were led by a winning 38.875 all-around from Taylor Chan, who also took top honors on vault with a 9.75 and floor with a 9.9.
"We showed much better consistency on each event today," said UAA head coach
Tanya Ho. "Hopefully we've just started to discover our potential on uneven bars, and we are beginning to find our rhythm on beam. I think with a good week of practice we can put up an even better score next week."
After starting with a 47.300 total on vault – led by 9.525s from Brown and fellow rookie
Mackenzie Robinson – the Seawolves would deliver on bars with five scores of 9.675 or better. Junior
Sophia Hyderally earned her 14th career victory and tied Elena Tkacheva (1996) and M'rcy Matsunami (2015) for the second-best bars score in program history with a 9.9, just 0.025 off Tkacheva's record. Junior
Tere Alonso, who entered with a career-best of bars routine of 9.425, then produced the sixth-best bars score ever for a Seawolf with a 9.85, followed by a 9.775 from junior
Hope Nelson, a 9.7 from Brown and a 9.6 from Fox.
Hyderally led the Seawolves to a 48.475 total on beam as the defending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion produced a 9.85. The Daphne, Alabama, native now owns 10 of the top 20 beam marks in program history. Fox earned a 9.825 on beam and Nelson a 9.7.
Brown earned a team-high 9.75 on floor exercise and senior
Kennedy Green scored 9.675 to lead UAA to a 47.850 total on floor.
The Seawolves travel for the first time in 2020 when they compete Friday at the UC Davis quad meet against UCD, George Washington and Sacramento State.
