Niko Bevens scored 19 points and fellow senior
Jack Macdonald had 16 points on perfect shooting but an undermanned Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team came up short in a late comeback attempt Thursday, falling 92-81 to Simon Fraser at the SFU West Gymnasium.
The Seawolves (14-10, 7-6 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 17 points and five assists from sophomore guard
Tobin Karlberg as they tried to overcome the loss of leading scorer and rebounder
Oggie Pantovic, who missed the contest due to administrative issues at the U.S.-Canada border crossing.

"I thought our guys showed tremendous fight tonight," said UAA head coach
Rusty Osborne. "Having to play 'small' and change our game plan at the last minute, every man out there really stepped up his game. Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on our fast start without being able to get some key rebounds. We will regroup and look to come back strong on Saturday (at Western Washington)."
Despite being shorthanded, the Seawolves came out firing early, grabbing a 17-9 lead after five minutes and making it 35-29 on a three-pointer from Karlberg at the 4-minute mark. The Clan would make six straight shots, however, and grabbed a 48-46 lead on Graham Miller's layup just before the halftime buzzer.
After the Seawolves answered early in the second half to grab a 51-50 on
David Riley's layup, the Clan rallied with the next nine points and led by at least three possessions for most of the final 14 minutes.
Bevens drained three-pointers to cut UAA's deficit to 72-66 with 8 minutes remaining and 86-79 at the 1:26 mark, but SFU was able to seal the game from the free-throw line.
Macdonald drained all six of his shots, including four three-pointers, while Bevens shot 5 of 8 from long range.
Karlberg added a team-high five assists for the Seawolves, and senior guard
Tyrus Hosley tallied 13 points (3-6 3FG), five rebounds, four assists and just one turnover.
UAA shot 15 of 31 from beyond the arc, however SFU was 24 of 33 from two-point range and attempted 27 free throws to UAA's 12.
