ANCHORAGE –
Tanya Ho has resigned her position as head gymnastics coach at the University of Alaska Anchorage, athletic director
Greg Myford announced Wednesday.
"I am extremely grateful to UAA for giving me the opportunity to prove myself as a head coach," said Ho, who took over the reins of the Seawolf program in July 2017, becoming just the second head coach in UAA gymnastics history. "In three years, I've had the good fortune to coach some extraordinarily impressive student-athletes, and I will be forever proud of their accomplishments both in the gym and the classroom."
In her first season, Ho helped an injury-laden UAA squad make improvements throughout the campaign, posting season-high totals in the last three meets and producing the Seawolves' first MPSF Freshman of the Year in all-arounder
Isabelle Fox. The Seawolves made even bigger strides in 2019, breaking 17 school records – including season average and National Qualifying Score marks on bars, beam, floor and overall – as she was voted MPSF Coach of the Year by her peers. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 campaign, Ho's squad broke four more school records, including again for bars average and National Qualifying Score.
"Tanya's effort and progress while leading our UAA gymnastics program have been evident in her teams' results," Myford said. "I expect that she will carry that trend into whatever lies ahead for her. I also expect that our returning team and their new head coach, when named, will be fully focused on continuing that upward trend. We have already taken the initial steps in the process of finding new leadership, and that process will remain a priority until a new head coach is announced."
