HONOLULU – Alaska Anchorage senior guard
Da'Zhon Wyche scored a game-high 22 points, but host Hawaii Pacific rallied late to earn a 74-73 men's basketball victory Saturday at the Shark Tank.
The visiting Seawolves (2-2) also got 13 points from junior guard
Dathan Satchell and 12 points from junior forward
Jaedon Bradley as they led for much of the night.
The Sharks (2-0) were led by 19 points and 12 rebounds from guard Marquis Moore, who helped his team to a 9-1 scoring run over the last 45 seconds.
UAA led 72-67 with under 30 seconds to play when HPU's Jalen Chandler made it a one-possession game with a second-chance three-pointer. Moore was fouled on a three-pointer after a Seawolf turnover in the backcourt, and hit one of three free throws to make it 72-71.
Wyche was fouled and made one of two free throws with 18 seconds remaining, but Chandler launched another trey from the same spot that swished through with eight seconds to go.
UAA broke the press to find Bradley open in the corner, but his three-point try bounced off the rim and time expired.
Wyche shot 4 of 8 from long range and led UAA with seven rebounds, while Satchell shot 2 of 4 from deep and grabbed six boards.
AJ Garrity led the Seawolves with three assists, and
Sawyer Storms had three steals.
UAA completes its Islands trip with an 8 p.m. AST tip Monday at Hawaii-Hilo.
