FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage ski teams turned in strong performances in the classic relays to wrap up the Alaska Nordic Cup Friday.
Matt Seline skied a strong opening leg for UAA (10:30), before handing off to Magnus Noroey, who posted the fastest time of the day (9:50). Sigurd Roenning was gaining on UAF, but was taken out by a lapped skier in the final turn. He posted a split of 10:11.
The UAF men won in 30:17, followed by UAA in 30:32.
The UAF women won in a time of 35:28, followed by UAA in 35:59.
Tuva Granoeien skied the opening leg in 12:25, followed by Tuva Bygrave (11:52) and Astrid Stav (11:41).
"We had another solid day," said associate head coach Trond Flagstad. "Although we came up short against UAF, I am happy with where they are at right now. It's a long season until the NCAA Championships in March, and that is when we want to be skiing our best.
UAF was crowned Alaska Cup champions. The winner is decided by the fastest combined times of the top-three male and female skiers of each team in each race.
UAA will compete at the US National Championships Jan. 4-9 in Houghton, Mich.
