ANCHORAGE – Sophomore
Alyssa Manley produced a 37.850 all-around and joined two teammates with individual event victories Friday as the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team opened its season with a 191.000-189.175 dual-meet loss to West Chester at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The visiting Golden Rams (3-0) were led by Sarah Eskew, who won vault with a 9.75 and tied for second on bars with a 9.45.
"While we didn't achieve the team score we were hoping for tonight, I was pleased with our poise and execution overall, and we have the ability to improve going forward," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "We were really pumped up tonight by one of the best crowds our program has experienced, so we're also grateful to our fans for showing up strong."
The crowd of 671 watched Seawolf senior
Rachel Decious place top three on all three of her events, including a shared victory on floor exercise with West Chester's McKenna Kissinger at 9.75. The Arizona native tied for second on bars with a 9.45 and third on beam with a 9.7.
UAA's other veterans started with solid performances as well.
Jessica Johnson won beam with a meet-best score of 9.775 and was runner-up on vault at 9.65, while fellow sophomore
Montana Fairbairn produced a 9.7 on beam and a 9.6 on vault.
Manley earned her all-around total thanks to a 9.65 on bars, a 9.6 on floor and a 9.5 on vault.
