Bromee opens season on a high note

SNOWBIRD, UTAH – Freshman Ella Bromee opened her career at the University of Alaska Anchorage with a pair of top-10 finishes at the Westminster Invitational Thursday.

The day featured two women's slalom races with Bromee placing fifth in the first one in 1:39.55 and sixth in the second in 1:38.26.

Alyssa Hill finished 11th in the first race in a time of 1:40.18. Ainsley Proffit completed the scoring the Seawolves in the first race with a 15th-place showing in 1:41.49. Ashleigh Alexander was the fourth UAA skier to finish in the top-20 in the first race placing 19th in 1:42.03.

Proffit, Hill and Alexander joined Bromee in the top-20 in the second race.

Profitt placed 17th (1:40.81), Hill 19th (1:41.07) and Alexander 20th (1:41.17).

"Very positive day for the women," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "Ella showed that she belongs in that top group and in the hunt for the podium. Alyssa, Ainsley, and Ashleigh had some great sections, but a few little mistakes cost them the top 10. Ashleigh was seventh on her second run in the second race. It's coming. We're close. All-in-all the ladies gave us reasons to believe. I'm excited about the direction we're headed."

Madison Hoffman of Utah won the first race (1:37.83), and Sara Rask of Denver won the second (1:34.49).

Utah leads the team standings with 182 points, followed by Denver (181), Montana State (129) and Alaska Anchorage (127 points).

The UAA men will compete in two slalom races Friday.
