Sharp-shooting Seawolves tame Wildcats, 90-72

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Jaedon Bowles had 16 points and eight rebounds to pace a balanced attack for the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team Thursday in a 90-72 victory over Central Washington at the Big Bend Community College Fieldhouse.

The Seawolves (8-5, 2-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, three assists and four steals from junior forward Sawyer Storms as they shot season highs in all three categories – .579 (33 of 57) from the field, .529 (9 of 17) on threes and .938 (15 of 16) on free throws.

The Wildcats (4-10, 0-5) got game highs of 21 points and six assists from guard Camron McNeil.

"I thought we did a terrific job of sharing the basketball and getting great looks, but our rebounding was really the key," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne, whose team won its GNAC road opener and fourth in a row overall. "Another big spark came from getting back to what we do well defensively after halftime, getting in passing lanes and turning those turnovers into transition chances. It's always nice to get that first league road win under your belt, and we're excited for another challenge Saturday in Nampa."

After going to overtime in the last two meetings with the Wildcats, the first half followed the same pattern, featuring five ties and 11 lead changes. UAA forged a 40-38 lead at the break when Dathan Satchell nailed one of his three three-pointers on a second-chance opportunity.

The Seawolves quickly stretched their advantage after the break, forcing a Wildcat timeout when AJ Garrity stole the ball and fed Lachlan Viney for a fastbreak layup and a 52-44 lead at the 16:28 mark.

Junior forward Jaron Williams sank consecutive midrange jumpers to make it 63-50 with 11:42 remaining, and Da'Zhon Wyche's free throws stretched the lead to 76-55 with 7:27 left.

Wyche scored all 15 of his points in the second half and finished with four assists and no turnovers, while Satchell (4-6 FG, 3-5 3FG) and Viney (6-8 FG) each had 12 points and five rebounds.

Bradley – a 6-5 junior transfer from Colorado State-Pueblo – shot 6 of 11 from the field (2-3 3FG) and recorded the second multi-block game of his career. His 16 points and eight rebounds both equaled his best outputs as a Seawolf against Div. II competition.

Williams and Tyson Gilbert scored eight points apiece on combined 7-of-9 shooting, while Garrity had two assists and three steals.

Thursday's game was played in Moses Lake – a 70-mile drive from Central's campus in Ellensburg – due to the continuing renovation of Nicholson Pavilion.

The Seawolves complete their road trip Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. AST tip against Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for live video and stats links.
