HOUGHTON, MICH. – Astrid Stav finished 18th and Sigurd Roenning was 27th to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage in the 20-kilometer classic races at the US Cross Country Skiing National Championships Friday.
Stav was the top finisher for the Seawolf women finishing in a time of 1:03:24.
Tuva Bygrave finished 33rd (1:05:53), and Pascale Paradise was 45th (1:08:01).
Roenning covered the 20-kilometer course in 54:22, followed by Peter Hinds who was 31st in 54:36.
Ari Endestad placed 39th (55:52), and Magnus Noroey was 48th (56:54).
Matt Seline finished 19th in the junior men's 10-kilometer race in 28:42.
"We had a decent day here with Sigurd and Astrid leading the way for the men and women respectively," said associate head coach Trond Flagstad. "Sigurd is skiing faster every race he does. Peter had a very solid race and is on an upward trend along with Ari. Magnus had an ok day, not what he was hoping for, but he pushed through. Matt had a very good day racing in the junior race.
"Astrid was solid but not happy with her race. She thinks she has more in the tank. Both Tuva and Pascale had tough days and tired early in the first 20-kilometer races of their careers."
The US National Championships conclude with the freestyle sprints Saturday.
