ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Leon Nikic used the home mountain advantage to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage with a third-place finish in the giant slalom at the UAA Invite Tuesday.
Nikic sat in sixth after the first run and followed up with the fastest second run to finish third in 1:33.35.
Gustav Vollo of Utah won in a time of 1:32.85.
Jan Ronner placed 15th (1:34.82), Hunter Eid 20th (1:35.23) and Caeden Carruthers 23rd (1:35.63).
Ainsley Proffit was the top UAA finisher in the women's race placing 12th (1:37.73).
The Seawolves had four more women finish in the top-25, Ashleigh Alexander 14th (1:38.67), Ella Bromee 20th (1:39.95), Alyssa Hill 22nd (1:41.11) and Olivia Carrier 25th (1:43.36).
Sara Rask of Denver won in 1:34.18.
Pascale Paradis led a trio of Seawolves to top-20 finishes in the women's 10-kilometer classic race. Paradis placed 11th (32:09), Tuva Bygrave 13th (32:26) and Astrid Stav 18th (32:33).
Magnus Noroey led UAA in the men's 10-kilometer classic race crossing the line 12th (27:24).
Peter Hinds finished 18th (28:01), Ari Endestad (29:05), Matt Seline 31st (29:32) and Sigurd Roenning 32nd (29:59).
Utah won both classic races with Novie McCabe winning the women's (30:41) and Luke Jager winning the men's (26:27).
The UAA Invite kicked off Monday with the freestyle sprints.
Pascale Paradis advanced to the final where she placed fifth. Tuva Bygrave finished 10th and Astrid Stav was 24th.
Ari Endestad led the men's team with a ninth-place finish. Magnus Noroey was 11th, Matt Seline 16th, Sigurd Roenning 19th and Peter Hinds 22nd.
UAA will compete in the giant slalom at the NCAA West Regional Championships at Alyeska Wednesday.
