STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLO. – Peter Hinds finished a career-best eighth to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage ski team at the University of Colorado Invite Friday.
Hinds covered the 20-kilometer classic course in 1:02:27.
Pascale Paradis was the lone Seawolf in the women's race finishing 11th (1:13:34).
"Today was a rough day for us as a team," said associate head coach Trond Flagstad. "We have some sickness on the women's side and were only able to field one woman. We also struggled a bit with the altitude, something we knew going in to it. The third day at altitude is usually the hardest for us coming from sea level. Despite the challenges Peter had a great race today with a carrier best eighth place, and I am very happy with the way he raced today. Pascale also had a good race with an 11th place finish, scoring good points for the team. We will look for a better day tomorrow and certainly next weekend in Vail. By then we'll be better acclimated and ready to race."
Sigurd Roenning finished 18th (1:07:19), Magnus Noroey 19th (1:07:20), Ari Endestad 22nd (1:09:04) and Matt Seline 23rd (1:11:54).
Andreas Kirkeng of Denver won the men's race (1:00:00), and Hanna Abrahamson of Colorado won the women's race (1:08:41).
The Seawolves are currently 6 of 7 teams with 72 points.
UAA will compete in the 5/10-kilometer freestyle races Saturday.
