LAKE PLACID, NY – Ella Bromee and Leon Nikic each skied to All-American honors in the slalom at the NCAA National Championships Friday.
Bromee finished fourth in a time of 1:50.75. She posted the fifth-fastest first run and the seventh-fastest second run.
Leon Nikic posted a pair of top-10 runs to finish sixth overall in the men's race in 1:50.72.
Ashleigh Alexander posted the sixth-fastest second run to finish 20th overall (1:53.68), and Ainsley Proffit placed 26th (1:54.93).
"Our kids battled today," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "Ella and Leon both had outstanding performances resulting in their All-American finishes. It's a huge achievement in this championship field of World Cup and Olympic athletes. They both absolutely crushed today. Ash had a blistering second run, sixth best, to move into the top-20. Very impressed by the way she approached her race today. Ainsley was in a great position to move into the top-10 after first run, but the way the time differentials were, she really needed to take a lot of risk to move up second run. She was piping off the top but got hung up right before the last combo. It's a game you have to play. She put it all out there. Excited for her future. All four Seawolves put Wednesday in the rear view and did a great job staying positive and prepared for this slalom. Very proud of our alpine group today."
UAA is currently 12th of 22 teams in the team standings.
Madison Hoffman of Utah won the women's race (1:49.37), and Mathias Tefre of Vermont won the men's (1:49.32).
The NCAA Championships conclude with the 20-kilometer classic races Saturday.
