ANCHORAGE (May 19) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team has added one of the top junior college standouts on the West Coast as head coach
Rusty Osborne announced Friday that
Malik Jackson has signed a scholarship agreement to play for the Seawolves.
A 6-6, 185-pound wing, Jackson was a First Team All-Northwest Athletic Conference and NWAC North All-Defensive Team performer as a sophomore last year at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Wash., helping his squad to a 25-4 record and the NWAC North Region title. He tallied four double-doubles and six 20-plus scoring efforts for the Pirates, averaging 12.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, while shooting .452 from the field, .390 from long range on .827 on free throws. Among his big games, Jackson scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting in a 68-65 win over South Puget Sound, and grabbed 15 rebounds in a road win over Whatcom.
"We are very excited to add Malik to our program," Osborne said. "He is an extremely versatile player who impacts the game in many areas. He has the size and length to guard bigger wings, is a very good rebounder, a talented passer – as shown by his 3-to-1 assist-turnover ratio – and shoots it at a high level. He can play multiple positions and gives us many options in our lineup. However, the biggest impact Malik has is that he is a 'winner.' When he plays, his teams win. Over his last two seasons, his teams have only lost five games when he was healthy and playing."
Jackson played his freshman season alongside future Seawolf teammate
Dathan Satchell at Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif., averaging 7.5 points (.543 FG, .429 3FG, .740 FT), 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The Dublin, Calif., native scored double figures nine times as he helped the Hawks to a 27-4 record and the CCCAA state quarterfinals.
As a prep star at Dublin High School, the 2020 graduate led his team to the semifinals of the CIF North Open Division in his final season.
Jackson becomes the fourth member of UAA's 2023 recruiting class and the first transfer, joining prep signees
Trey Evans (6-5, PG, South Jordan, Utah/Real Salt Lake Academy),
Sloan Lentfer (6-7, F, Anchorage/Grace Christian HS) and
Lyman Simmons (6-10, F/C, St. George, Utah/Real Salt Lake Academy).
