BACKFLIPPING BACK EAST: The Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team makes its first road trip of the 2024 season with meets Friday at Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn., and Sunday at Brown in Providence, R.I. ... Friday's meet will also feature Ursinus and Rhode Island College in a 4-way competition.
 
GIANT LEAP IN HOME OPENERS: The Seawolves got the season under way with their lone home competitions of 2024 last week, falling in a pair of duals to MPSF rival UC Davis at the Alaska Airlines Center ... opening night saw the Seawolves score 186.250, with career highs from Emily Walker (9.8 UB) and Montana Fairbairn (9.75 FX/37.950 AA) highlighting the competition ... two days later, the Seawolves made a huge improvement to 191.050, led by a 38.350 all-around from Fairbairn, who was making her all-around debut ... UAA scored 48.500 on uneven bars for the 18th-best total in program history, led by a 9.775 from Fairbairn and a 9.675 from freshman Claudia Lessig ... senior Silje Hildebrand also aided the effort with career-high 9.675s on vault and floor.
