Jessica Johnson led another strong performance on balance beam Sunday to highlight the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team's effort at The Nest.
The Seawolves finished with a 191.500 total, falling to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival Sacramento State (195.100) in the dual meet.
Johnson helped the Seawolves to a strong finish with an anchoring 9.8 score on beam, propelling a 48.475 total on that apparatus. Junior
Montana Fairbairn tallied a 9.775 and sophomore Marcela
Bonifasi a 9.725 as UAA tied the No. 21 beam score in program history and the fourth top-25 mark this year.
"We stuck our dismounts and really hit our skills today on beam," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "This continues to give us confidence as we prepare to peak at the MPSF meet in two weeks."
The Seawolves also performed well on vault with a 48.000 total, led by a 9.775 from freshman
Maddy Murphy and a 9.675 from Fairbairn. Freshmen
Avery Tillmanns and Lessig delivered 9.525 and 9.5, respectively, as UAA reached the 48-point plateau for the fifth straight meet.
Junior
Hayley Perkins led the Seawolves with a 9.65 on bars, while Bonifasi scored 9.6.
Fairbairn led a 47.600 floor exercise total with a 9.675, along with 9.55s from Lessig and senior
Silje Hildebrand.
UAA returns to the same venue in 13 days to face Sac State, UC Davis and Southern Utah in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
