ANCHORAGE (May 31) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team has finalized its 2024-25 roster with a talented local addition, as head coach
Rusty Osborne announced Friday that
Luke Johnston has joined the Seawolf program.
A 6-2, 180-pound guard, Johnston was a two-time all-state and three-time All-Cook Inlet Conference performer at Dimond High School, helping the Lynx to consecutive top-4 state tournament finishes his final two seasons. As a senior in 2022-23, he was an All-State Tournament Team selection and AABC All-Star Game participant. He scored 16 points to lead Dimond to a victory over traditional power East in the Cook Inlet Conference title game, and was the MVP of the 2022 Alaska Prep Shootout.
"We are excited that Luke has decided to return home and be a Seawolf. He is a tremendous young man with a bright future," said Osborne, whose upcoming squad also includes Alaskans
Luke Devine (Wasilla),
Hasaan Herrington (Anchorage/East),
Parker Kroon (Wasilla),
Sloan Lentfer (Anchorage/Grace Christian),
Jaylin Scott (Seldovia/Ninilchik) and
Bishop Tosi (Anchorage/Bartlett). "He is another local product who we recruited after his senior year, but we understood and respected his desire to honor the original verbal commitment he had made in the fall. Luke fortunately had the opportunity to join us this spring after our season ended, so he has a head start on learning our staff, system and school. His versatility at the guard spot should pay dividends over the next four years as he adjusts to the college game."
Johnston is the seventh player in UAA's 2024 recruiting class, joining transfers
Alex Argandar (6-2, 175, G, Modesto, Calif./Modesto Christian HS/College of the Sequoias),
Tyler Burraston (6-4, 190, G, Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon HS/Green River [Wash.] CC),
Sean Evans (6-3, 180, G, Parker, Colo./Legend HS/Nebraska-Kearney),
Zach Ibbetson (6-3, 180, G, Norco, Calif./NHS/Santiago Canyon College),
John McFadden (6-8, 220, F, San Juan Capistrano, Calif./San Juan Hills HS/Saddleback College), and
Jesse Stines (6-6, 210, F, La Mirada, Calif./Corona HS/Irvine Valley College).
