ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Porter Schachle scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 7-1 exhibition win over Grand Canyon Friday at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex.
Alex Gomez opened the scoring for UAA with a goal at 8:40 of the first period.
GCU tied the game at 1-1 after Caden Hennikson scored just seconds after the Lopers powerplay expired at 13:01 of the first.
Ethan Warrener danced around a defender and fired a shot past GCU netminder Dmytro Kubrytskyi at 18:45 of the first to give UAA a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Schachle scored both of his goals in the second period. His first came in the opening minute and he followed up with a power-play goal at 12:50.
The Seawolves got two other goals in the second period from Ben Anderson at 6:49 and Karter McNarland at 15:11.
Dylan Contreras scored the lone goal of the third for the Seawolves at 3:36.
UAA finished 1-for-4 on the man-advantage and held GCU scoreless on their three chances.
UAA led in shots 35-11.
Greg Orosz, Bryant Marks and Tyler Krivtsov each played one period in net for the Seawolves.
Alaska Anchorage will host preseason No. 1 and defending national champions Denver to open the season Oct. 5-6 at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex.
