Caleb runs into record books in Reno

RENO, NEV. – University of Alaska Anchorage sophomore Joshua Caleb ran 6.59 (altitude converted) in the 60 to set numerous records at the Silver and Blue Invitational Friday.

Vivien Liessfeld set a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 5.79/19-0 to finish tied for eighth. Her mark was a personal-best by 4.25 inches and bettered the school-record of 18.7.75/5.68 shared by Karolin Anders (2016) and Chrisalyn Johnson (2019). Liessfeld's performance ranks ninth all-time in the GNAC.

Liessfeld also finished 22nd in the 60 in a time of 7.90, the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Marc Mercier recorded the second-best mark in school history to finish second in the long jump with a leap of 7.23/23-8.75.

Peyton George finished sixth in the 60 in 6.99, the eight-fastest time all-time at UAA.

"Really great day for the team," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "We got this indoor season started off with the right foot forward and got a group of young athlete's feet wet for the first time in a positive manner. Looking forward to finishing this meet off tomorrow and getting back to work once we get back to campus"

AJ Szewczyk ran the 10th-fastest time in program history in the 60 hurdles (9.10) to finish fourth.

Ryann Smith was the runner-up in the women's mile crossing the line in 5:09.91.

In the women's 60 hurdles, Liv Heite finished 14th (8.96) and Lacie Simmons finished 24th (9.44).

The Seawolves will compete in day two of the Silver and Blue Invitational Saturday.
