WEEKEND PREVIEW: Coming off its first dual victories of the 2025 campaign, the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team aims for upsets this week in a pair of tri-meets in Corvallis, Ore. ... on Friday, UAA will face the host Beavers and MPSF rival UC Davis, while Monday's meet will feature UAA against Oregon State and Washington.
 
SCOUTING REPORT: All three of UAA's opponents this week are averaging better than 193.500 ... Oregon State is ranked 10th nationally with a 196.688 average and a season-high of 197.600 ... UC Davis comes into Friday with a 193.595 average and a high of 194.375, while Washington  is averaging 194.813, with a high of 195.425.

IN THE WIN COLUMN: The Seawolves earned their first victories of 2025 with solid efforts against Greenville in their home openers, Jan. 23 & 25 at the Alaska Airlines Center ... in the first meet, senior Montana Fairbairn earned wins on three events and sophomore Jamilia Duffus took top honors on uneven bars in a 190.875-185.800 decision ... the Seawolves got a 9.85 on floor and a 9.775 on vault from Fairbairn – who matched her career high on both apparatus – along with a 9.725 on beam, while freshman Hannah Boyd recorded a 37.800 all-around for the hosts ... competing for the third time in seven days, UAA took control from the outset, getting a 9.6 from Boyd, a 9.575 from freshman Maribelle Albert and a 9.55 from Duffus to boost a 47.950 vault score ... Duffus – a transfer from Talladega – came through with a career-high 9.775 on bars to earn her first individual victory as a Seawolf, while sophomore Jada Niles scored 9.475 ... Boyd recorded a 9.675 on beam and sophomore Breeann Spain had a 9.65 to help UAA to a 47.975 on that apparatus ... UAA closed with its strongest floor total – 45.850 – of the season, led by Fairbairn's 9.85 ... junior Ariana DeSouza and Boyd earned 9.75s on floor, while Spain came through with her third career-high of the season already, tallying 9.725 ... on Saturday, Fairbairn again earned victories on three events and Boyd delivered a 37.775 all-around to boost a 192.300-182.675 victory ... UAA started strong on vault, sweeping the top four spots with Fairbairn (9.7), Duffus (9.7), Boyd (9.6) and Albert (9.6) ... junior Alyssa Manley – returning from an injury that cost her the entire 2024 season – had her best performance of the year to tie with Niles atop the bars podium at 9.675, while sophomore Claudia Lessig earned a 9.6 ... the Seawolves recorded a season-best 48.300 total on balance beam, led by Fairbairn and Boyd (9.7) ... UAA also swept the podium on floor with a winning 9.725 from Fairbairn, a 9.65 from DeSouza and a 9.6 from Boyd, who earned her first career all-around victory.
 
FOR OPENERS: The Seawolves got the 2025 campaign under way Jan. 17 & 19 with a two-meet average of 191.138 at league rivals Sacramento State and UC Davis ... in the opener, freshman Hannah Boyd earned a 37.850 all-around and junior Breeann Spain posted a pair of career bests to pace a 189.775 total ... the Seawolves had their best success on floor, taking first place after one rotation with 48.350 points behind veterans Montana Fairbairn (9.775), Ariana DeSouza (9.75) and Spain (9.625) ...  Fairbairn sprung to another team-best score with a 9.625 on vault in the second rotation, while sophomore Jamilia Duffus scored 9.475 in her Seawolf debut ... sophomore Avery Tillmanns led UAA in the third rotation with a 9.625 on her first career uneven bars performance, while sophomore Claudia Lessig managed a 9.6 ... UAA finished with a 47.500 total on balance beam, getting a third-place 9.75 from William & Mary senior transfer Grace Costello and a 9.55 from Spain ... on Sunday, Boyd recorded a 38.425 all-around score and Duffus excelled on vault (9.675) and bars (career-high 9.725) to lead a 192.500 total at Davis ... the Seawolves also got strong scores from Fairbairn (9.725 V, 9.65 BB, 9.85 FX) as the Canadian became the 14th gymnast in program history to earn 9.85 on higher on floor ... Boyd scored 9.675 on beam, 9.65 on floor and 9.625 on bars to improve her all-around total, while Costello posted 9.65 on vault, 9.725 on beam and 9.525 on floor.

'WOLF BITES: Senior Montana Fairbairn went from two to eight career victories in one weekend with her performances against Greenville ... the Canadian registered back-to-back 9.85s on floor recently to become just the ninth Seawolf to achieve that mark at least twice ... Fairbairn led UAA last year with 30 scores of 9.6 or higher, including on all 11 of her vaults and 10 of her 11 floor routines ... Fairbairn was Second Team All-MPSF on floor (9.780 NQS) last season and on vault in 2023 ... sophomore Claudia Lessig led UAA in 2024 with three event victories ... Lessig's 9.875 beam routine Feb. 9 was her first career victory and made her just the sixth Seawolf in program history to score that high on beam ... Lessig's 2024 all-around average of 38.350 ranked 9th-best in program history, while her beam average of 9.634 led the team and ranked 13th on UAA's program list ... UAA gets a big lift with the return of junior Alyssa Manley from a medical redshirt campaign ... an All-MPSF Second Team pick on bars in her first two seasons, the Albuquerque native produced the 9th-best UAA season average at 9.666 in 2023 ... Manley is second among current Seawolves with seven career victories ... the Seawolves are also getting a boost from senior transfer Grace Costello, a two-time All-GEC Second Team performer in her three seasons at William & Mary ... Costello brings career highs of 9.775 or higher on all four apparatus, including a 9.825 on beam last year.
