BELLINGHAM, WASH. – John Peckham and Mya Campbell each finished second for the University of Alaska Anchorage on the first day of the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
John Peckham was leading the steeplechase and on pace for a personal-best when he clipped a barrier on the final lap sending him to the track. He got back up and finished second in a time of 9:04.85.
Mya Campbell earned All-GNAC honors after placing second in the long jump with a mark of 5.68/18-7.75. She finished ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.52/4-11.75.
Marc Mercier placed fourth in the men's long jump (7.02/23-0.5), and Zachary Grams finished seventh in the 10,000 (31:11.80).
Joshua Caleb will be the top-seed in Saturday's final of the 100 and 200. He ran a meet record of 10.24 in the 100 and ran 21.07 in the 200.
Two other Seawolves will join Caleb in the finals of the 100. Enrique Campbell finished second (10.54), and Riday Jana was fourth (10.68).
Liv Heite ran a school record, and the fourth-fastest time in GNAC history, to finish second in the prelims of the 100 hurdles in 13.81. She will be the second-seed in the finals of the 400 hurdles after running 1:02.69.
Lacie Simmons ran the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 100 hurdles to finish third in 14.46. She will join Heite in the finals of the 400 hurdles after placing sixth in 1:05.84.
Mette Van der Meer qualified for the 100 hurdles final after placing fourth in 14.50.
AJ Szewczyk (57.58) and McKinley Eddington (1:09.86) both finished ninth in the prelims of the 400 hurdles.
Ryann Smith and Lucia Garcia each qualified for the finals of the 800 finishing fourth (2:14.84) and eighth (2:17.21).
Tobin Schmidtke cleared 4.05/13-3.5 to finish ninth in the pole vault.
The men are currently fourth of nine teams, and the women are tied for sixth of nine teams.
The GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships conclude Saturday.
