Hockey team announces 2025-26 schedule

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team has officially released its 2025–26 season schedule, and it's shaping up to be one of the most exciting slates in program history.

The Seawolves will open the season at home with a marquee matchup against perennial powerhouse Bemidji State, giving fans a chance to see the team in action early against elite competition.

UAA will make its first road trip of the season to take on 2025 Frozen Four participant Denver Oct. 31-Nov. 1, followed by a two-game series at St. Cloud State.

"This schedule reflects who we are and who we want to be," said UAA Head Coach Matt Shasby. "We're challenging ourselves early and often. Bemidji is a tough opener, and going on the road to face blue bloods like Denver and St. Cloud will show us exactly where we stand."

A centerpiece of the 2025–26 campaign is the Desert Classic Tournament hosted by Arizona State — a national spotlight event that brings top programs together in a high-stakes setting – and includes Air Force and Michigan Tech.

One of the season's defining battles will be the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup, an eight-game rivalry series against in-state rival Alaska Fairbanks. The battle for bragging rights in the Last Frontier is one of the fiercest rivalries in college hockey and draws intense support from fans across the state. The Seawolves are in active negotiations to host the Nanooks at Sullivan Arena Feb. 6-7 and Feb. 20-21.

"There's nothing like the Governor's Cup," Shasby said. "Every shift matters. Every game is personal. It's about pride, it's about the state, and it's a rivalry that fuels our entire year."

The regular season concludes with a groundbreaking event: the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup. Independent programs from around the country will square off for the title of independent supremacy, marking the first time independents have competed for a true postseason championship.

"Playing for a championship at the end of the year is what every program dreams of," added Shasby. "The United Collegiate Hockey Cup gives us something tangible to fight for — and our guys are hungry for it."

With a mix of tradition, competition, and opportunity, the 2025–26 season represents a major step forward for the Seawolves program and its quest for national recognition.
