Lessig, Duffus pace gymnasts to dual win

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 25) – Jamilia Duffus won three events and Claudia Lessig delivered a 37.700 all-around Sunday to lead the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team to a 190.100-173.125 dual-meet victory over Wilberforce at the Alaska Airlines Center.

A junior from Jamaica, Duffus scored 9.675 on vault, 9.775 on bars and a career-best 9.675 on floor exercise, while Lessig placed third on bars with a 9.575.

The Seawolves swept the podium on all four events, with freshman Alexandra Karkowski taking top honors on beam with a personal-best 9.75.

"Our dismounts and landings were terrific today," said UAA head coach Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "Hopefully we can use this bye week to lock in and gain some more confidence for our next road trip."

The Seawolves performed best on bars with a 47.825 team total, getting a runner-up 9.6 from Avery Tillmanns and a 9.55 from senior Madelyn Gomez.

Verena Wong (9.575) and Maribelle Albert (9.525) delivered podium finishes on vault, and Gomez was runner-up on floor with a 9.65.

UAA returns to action Feb. 6 at Air Force and Feb. 9 at Utah State. Find live links for those meets at GoSeawolves.com.
