SPOKANE, WASH. – Charlie Hulbert won the 3,000 and the University of Alaska Anchorage had five other All-GNAC performances on the final day of the GNAC Track and Field Championships Tuesday.
Hulbert ran in the lead pack until pulling away over the 400 meters to win in 8:27.81. He is the seventh Seawolf man to win the event at the GNAC championships.
Liv Heite ran a school-record time of 8.53 to finish second in the 60 hurdles. The time ranks tied for third all-time in GNAC history. Her time ranks 17th in Div. II this season.
Anders Larsen, who led after day one of the heptathlon, set personal-bests in each of the three events on day two to finish second with 5,132 points, third-best all-time at UAA and 10th all-time in the GNAC. He scored 858 points with a time of 8.42 in the 60 hurdles, 626 points in the pole vault (4.03/13-2.5) and 682 points in the 1,000 (2:58.15). His hurdle time ranks fourth all-time at UAA and his pole vault and 1,000 marks rank fifth and sixth all-time. His score ranks ninth in Div. II this season.
Tobin Schmidtke ran the fastest 1,000 time in the field to finish third in the heptathlon with 4,830 points. He scored 748 points in the hurdles (8.99), 711 points in the pole vault (4.33/14-2.5) and 800 points in the 1,000 (2:46.73). His pole vault and 1,000 marks rank fourth and fifth all-time at UAA.
Jessica Chisar was runner-up in the 800 in 2:11.23.
"I was very proud of the fight these athletes brought to the conference meet," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "It's a tough ask. The conference is better than it's ever been, and we are a small crew. But our athletes didn't flinch. The just stuck their heads and hearts into it and competed in everything we could compete in."
The men's 4x400 relay of Anders Larsen, Ethan Stiller, Brian Morris and Hunter Taddy finished third in 3:20.13, the eighth-fastest time in school history.
The women's 4x400 relay finished fifth after colliding with another runner during the first exchange. The team of Liv Heite, Jessica Chisar, Avrey Campbell and Mya Campbell ran 3:56.18, the ninth-fastest time in school history.
Blanca De Arvizu Sarrias finished fourth in the 60 hurdles in 8.90.
Ethan Ackroyd and Ty Elliott finished fifth (4:17.42) and sixth (4:17.82) in the men's mile.
Ryann Smith finished sixth in the 3,000 (10:14.79) and seventh in the mile (5:04.62).
The UAA women finished fourth with 66 points and the men were seventh with 52 points.
