COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 6) – Junior
Claudia Lessig sprung a season-best 38.250 all-around and paced an impressive effort on balance beam as the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team earned a 190.325 total Friday at the Air Force tri-meet at Cadet West Gymnasium.
The Seawolves also got a strong showing from senior
Madelyn Gomez, who led the Seawolves with a 9.65 vault, along with a 9.5 on uneven bars.
UAA finished third in the meet behind Air Force (195.800) and Utah State (195.400).
ONLINE REULTS
The Seawolves had their top trio of scores on beam, placing three gymnasts among the top eight finishers. Lessig equaled the No. 16 balance beam score in UAA history with a 9.85, tying for second on the podium, while freshman
Alexandra Karkowski flipped to a 9.8 and sophomore
Jordan Grindol a 9.775.
"We had some nice highlights during a tough meet, and our best scores fortunately were good enough to earn a season high," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "Claudia continues to be rewarded for her hard work in the gym, and Alexandra and Jordan showed great skills on beam."
UAA's top event total came on vault at 47.800, led by Gomez and a 9.625 from sophomore
Verena Wong. Sophomore
Maribelle Albert earned a 9.6 and junior
Jada Niles a 9.575, while Lessig rounded out the scoring with a 9.35.
Niles was the Seawolves' top performer on uneven bars with a 9.625, along with a 9.575 from Lessig.
On floor, senior
Ariana DeSouza led the team with a 9.625 and Lessig produced a 9.475.
