Seawolves sign 6-8 wing Quincy Byas

ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball roster continued to take shape Tuesday as head coach Cameron Turner announced that another of his former players, Quincy Byas, has signed a scholarship agreement to play for the Seawolves.

A 6-8, 185-pound wing, Byas comes north after spending a redshirt season under Turner's tutelage at Eastern Arizona College. The Portland, Ore., native was a standout in high school at Rosemary Anderson Prep, where he played in the prestigious Grind League against the nation's elite prep-school squads. Among his top performances, he had 35 points against top-ranked Prolific Prep, which featured Darryn Peterson and Winters Grady.

"Quincy has great energy and big-time talent," said Turner. "He's flown under the radar in recruiting circles for a while, but people will know his name soon. His length and ability to guard on the perimeter will help us tremendously defensively, and he brings high-level scoring prowess. We're excited to help him reach his potential and become an important part of our program."

Prior to Rosemary Anderson, he played two seasons at traditional Oregon public-school power Jesuit High School. He brings a connection with the Seawolf program as well, being the cousin of former UAA forward Gus Simmers.

Byas becomes the third Seawolf to sign since Turner assumed coaching duties this spring, joining Joseph Mayberry (6-5/190, G, Lancaster, Texas/LHS/McLennan CC) and former EAC teammate Tarrance Warren (6-2/175, G, Dallas, Texas/Sam Houston HS/Eastern Arizona/Barry U.)
