Aussie pipeline brings Keighran north to UAA

ANCHORAGE (May 15) – Alaska Anchorage men's basketball coach Cameron Turner has continued to find success in the transfer portal, announcing Friday that guard Mack Keighran has committed to the Seawolves for his senior season.

A 6-2, 180-pound guard, Keighran was the third-leading scorer last season at fellow NCAA Div. II program Chadron State, averaging 11.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, he shot 36 percent from long range and ranked 14th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with .825 free-throw accuracy, scoring double figures in 14 of 26 appearances. Among his top efforts, he had 30 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5-8 3FG, 11-13 FT) in a 92-90 loss to Adams State, and 21 points and five assists – including the game-winning dish with two seconds left – in a 74-73 win over Northern State.

"I have coached a long line of Aussies throughout my career," said Turner. "Mack fits the bill like the others – tough, smart, and understands winning at a high level. He comes with experience and has already proven he can succeed at the Division II level. We are happy he chose to finish his career at UAA and continue the fantastic tradition of Aussies to wear the Green & Gold."

Prior to Chadron State, Keighran played two years of junior college basketball at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas, including his sophomore season for a team that went 25-9 and reached the NJCAA national tournament.

He will become the 13th Australian to play for the Seawolves – all since 2004 – and the seventh from the greater Melbourne area.

Keighran is the fourth Seawolf to sign since Turner assumed coaching duties this spring, joining Quincy Byas (6-8/185, G/F, Portland, Ore./Rosemary Anderson Prep/Eastern Arizona), Joseph Mayberry (6-5/190, G, Lancaster, Texas/LHS/McLennan CC) and Tarrance Warren (6-2/175, G, Dallas, Texas/Sam Houston HS/Eastern Arizona/Barry U.).
